Sponsor-A-Sister Program

In 1857, the Sisters of St. Joseph were assigned to work at the St. Joseph's Orphan Asylum in Limestone Hill, now known as Lackawanna.  Soon, they were also working in St. John's Protectory, a residence for wayward and destitute youth.  They became mothers and teachers to those in their care.

While Father Baker was the visionary and administrator of the institutions, the sisters were their heart ... overseeing the day-to-day operations, including training and supervising nurses in the hospital.  Truly, the Institutions could not have survived without their dedication.

In honor of the long-lasting and immeasurable contributions made by the Sisters of St. Joseph, please sponsor a Sister.  Your gift at this level will allow one to attend this year's Friends of Father Baker Reception and be recognized for their life-long ministry of helping others.  This small act of kindness is in gratitude for the 160 years the Sisters of Saint Joseph have devoted to St. Joseph’s Orphan Asylum, St. John’s Protectory, the Infant Home, the Maternity Hospital, and, most recently, OLV Elementary School.
